Lana Mesić

Lana Mesic (b. 1987, Yugoslavia) is an artist living and working in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. With a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Photography from AKV|St. Joost in Breda (2010 and 2012), she has long been drawn to the strange, invisible forces that shape our everyday lives. At the core of her practice lies a fascination  with how we—both individually and collectively -fill in the gaps of what we cannot see.

A visual artist with a trans disciplinary approach, Mesic moves seamlessly between photography, sculpture, assemblage, video, books, and social interven=ons in the public realm. Her work navigates the transience and chaos of this world, skill fully blending urgent social issues with personal experience to reflect the oHen turbulent state of contemporary society. At times, her practice engages with the current zeitgeist; at others, it veers into anachronism, digging deep into social, psychological, and ethical dilemmas that transcend time.

“In both my work and worldview, I embrace failure wholeheartedly—and I do it well. There’s beauty in embracing the fail, and through those cracks shines an incandescent glimmer of hope. Often, what has gloriously failed leads to the most profound discoveries.
ALL HAIL THE FAIL!”

Our daily experiences rely on social norms and conventions, providing a framework for stability and predictability. But change is inevitable—and it is this constant flux that Mesic captures in her work. Her pieces highlight the fluidity and uncertainty that underlie even the most familiar aspects of life, exposing them through a playful, experimental spirit that is always a little mischievous.
